Abbey Mamers is a 13 year old Australian Dressage Young Rider based on the Mornington Peninsula.
My name is Abbey Mamers. I’m 13 years old and I live on the Mornington Peninsula. I’ve been riding since I could sit up! My love is dressage although I compete in all disciplines. I have two horses, my welsh cob mare, Hillswood Nina (Nina) and my young warmblood mare Revelwood Fantasy (Fanta).
I’m bringing my young mare Fanta along slowly to ensure she gets the correct training and not being asked to do more than she can cope with. This has included lots of ground work and lots of rest time.
With Nina I have achieved so much in the last couple of years. One of my favourite highlights was winning the Jamie Stroud Memorial Prize for highest dressage score at the Australian Pony Owner Breeders (APOB) Dressage Day. Nina is the type of pony that I can compete in dressage one day, trail ride with my friends the next day, event the following weekend and then swim at the beach. She is a truly amazing pony.
I have a great support team around me to coach me and help me with my young horses. I train with my coach David Boyle every week before school and we concentrate on improvements that I can continue building on during the week by myself. Our school equestrian coach Bianca Veneziano is a fantastic support to me and the rest of my school team, and Lara Beth Poynton has been a great help with ground work and helping me get my head in the right space to train young horses.
“I love how the Peter Horobin StrideFree® saddles puts my leg in a really good position and the horse is always comfortable.”
